After leaving his career in  music promotion at the Commodore Ballroom in the late 1970's, Paul Hovan moved easily into a different kind of promotion, advertising; eventually forming Quest Advertising and doing work primarily with BC's unions. Several years passed before Paul was approached to help produce a CD for Dalannah Gail Bowen. As he had already been considering recording and releasing the music being written and performed by local musicians, he used this opportunity to form Quest Records. He sought out a couple of long time friends and associates to assist in creating the label: Jim Salmon, percussionist and musicianary, who had the contacts and connections to studios and musicians, and Mark Fancher, a creative director who could put together the visuals and CD packaging that would be needed to release professional looking final product.
